India could not play the full day on the first day of the 3rd test Vs. South Africa at Nagpur. Captain Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Dhawan and Vijay gave a solid 50 run stand. At lunch India were 85/2 with a high score on the cards. But the South African bowlers bounced back with quick wickets after lunch and reduced India to 127 for 6. Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja put up a 48 run 7th wicket partnership before Jadeja departed. After that India bundled out on 215 without much resistance from the tailenders.

Pacer Morne Morkel picked three crucial wickets in Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. Offie Simon Harmer was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets for just 78 runs. Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada and Dean Elgar shared on wicket each.

In reply, the South Africans ended the day with 2 for 11 from 9 overs. R Ashwin picked up Van Zyl for a duck. Imran Tahir was sent in as the Night watchman but Jadeja bowled him after Tahir hit a boundary.
