Despite losing AB De Villiers early, Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis fought hard on the 3rd day of the 3rd test. Both batsmen reached the thirties and negotiated spin well. Earlier when Dean Elgar and De Villiers perished cheaply, it looked like an encore of South African first innings was on the cards but Amla and Du Plessis used their feet well to neutralize the turn and bounce. Finally Amit Mishra got one to spin and bounce sharply off the spot to take the shoulder of Amla’s bat and get caught at gully. In his very next over, Mishra knocked back Du Plessis’ off stump to push SA back into the danger of losing the series. Two quick wickets after tea from Ashwin meant South Africa might lose the game on the third day. After he picked up Kagiso Rabadaand Morne Morkel, India won the match and the series. Ashwin picked up 7 wickets in the second innings.
Ravichandran Aswin was awarded the man of the match. This is the second test win under Virat Kohli. India broke South Africa’s 9 year old record of staying unbeaten outside the country.
