In a battle where Atletico De Kolkata wanted to carry on their winning streak and Mumbai City FC wanted to salvage some pride, MCFC had the last laugh as they won the match by the leanest of margins thanks to a last minute goal from Haitian Sony Norde. Both teams made multiple changes to their side.
The match started with MCFC taking lead on the 26th minute via Sony Norde strike. ATK’s Iain Hume equalized from a penalty conceded by Pratesh Shirodkar in the injury time. At the beginning of second half, ATK created some good chances but forward Samheeg Doutie culd not capitalize. Against the run of play, Sunil Chhetri scored from a penalty conceeded by Tiri on the 82nd minute. Just as the match looked set to go MCFC’s way, more drama ensued as ATK’s Izumi Arata scored on the 90th minute. Sony Norde managed to score on the last minute of injury time to finally secure the win for MCFC.
This is Mumbai’s first and only away win in ISL till now. ATK now remains on 23 points and they have to wait to find out who their semifinal opponent would be. As ATK skipper Borja Fernandes got his fourth yellow card today, he would be missing the first leg of the semifinal clash.
