It has been a story of blocking since the beginning of day 5 of Delhi test. South African’s made it pretty clear last evening that they were in no mood to chase the runs and would rather try to see out the day 5 for a possible draw. It started with Hashim Amla throwing a dead bat at everything and later on AB De Villiers joined the party. Today in the first session, Hashim Amla fell to a superb Ravindra Jadeja delivery after making 25 off 244 balls.
Amla’s wicket brought Faf Du Plessis to the crease who was content to play defensive as well. After lunch, India’s perseverance finally paid off when Ravindra Jadeja caught Du Plessis plumb in front. JP Duminy joined De Villiers at the crease but his problems with off spin bowlers continued as he fell to Ravichandran Ashwin for a duck. South Africa went into tea with AB De Villiers and Dane Villas at the crease.
After the tea it seemed the break had caused lapse in concentration for the South Africans as Umesh Yadav bowled Dane Villas for 13 and the very next over from Ashwin caught the big fish, AB De Villiers who had been valiantly defying everything the Indians threw at him. But Ashwin finally got one to turn and bounce sharply and De Villiers gloved it to leg slip. De Villiers made a gritty 43 from an astonishing 297 balls. Imran Tahir and Kyle Abbott joined shortly before a beautiful and fast inswinger from Umesh Yadav broke the middle stump of Abbott. In his very next over, Yadav produced another wicket as wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha took a blinder of a catch. Ashwin clean bowled Morne Morkel to complete a famous victory for India.
Ashwin ended with 5 wickets for 61 and Yadav took 3 for only 9. Rest 2 wickets were captured by Jadeja. Ravichandran Ashwin was awarded the man Of The Series as Ajinkya Rahane bagged the Man of The Match trophy.
