ICC has confirmed in a tweet that Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kushal Perera has been provisionally suspended from international cricket after testing positive for banned substance use as per the directives of WADA. According to a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket, Kusal was randomly tested during the Sri Lanka – Pakistan series. His urine samples were tested positive for a banned substance.
The Sri Lankan Cricket Team is currently touring New Zealand. Kusal has been immediately called back as batsman Kaushal Silva has been sent in his place. SLC said in a statement, “In view of this and in terms of the applicable ICC Regulations, SLC has recalled Perera from New Zealand. SLC will take all steps required to have a further sample tested and make every endeavour to enable Kusal Janith Perera to resume playing cricket at the earliest opportunity in compliance with the ICC Regulations.”
