Delhi Dynamos managed to take a slender lead of 1 – 0 in the first leg on their semifinal against FC Goa last night 11th December. Despite the win, Delhi are in no position to celebrate yet as they failed to capitalize the home game advantage in the 1st leg by missing a plethora of scoring opportunities. In the second leg, Goa would have to defeat Delhi by a margin of 2 goals to be in the finals. Going by the fact that it will be a home match for Goa, this does not seem too difficult for Zico’s team.
Both Roberto Carlos and Zico made multiple changes to the starting line up. The first chance came to Delhi on as early as the 4th minute when Brazilian Dos Santos set it up for Florent Malouda who shot over the bars. Dos Santos created a chance for himself at the 19th minute but his shot was saved by the goalkeeper. Finally on the 42nd minute Dos Santos fed the ball to Chicao who set it up for Robin Singh. Robin headed home to give the home side a 1 – 0 lead.
Second half another string of missed opportunities for Delhi as Adeel Nabi shot wide on the 49th minute and Shylo Malswamtulunga shot wide on the 60th minute from yet another Dos Santos pass. One final effort from Dos Santos on the 84th minute was athletically saved by Goa Keeper Kattimani. It remains to be seen if all these missed chances would come back to haunt Roberto Carlos’s team in the second leg.
