The fab four if Chennai Super Kings, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja finally got separated as Pune picked up the Indian captain M S Dhoni and Indian’s best spin bowler at the moment Ashwin. Pune got the first pick and utilized it fully. Dhoni will lead the Pune team in the upcoming edition of IPL which will take place during April – May 2016. Sanjiv Goenka’s Pune also picked up Ajinkya Rahane, a move experts are saying could turn out to be a tournament winning one.
Rajkot picked up Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. Raina tweeted “Excited to play for the beautiful vibrant city- Rajkot. Looking forward to have new teammates and support from the people of Gujarat.” The quartet of Dhoni, Jadeja, Raina and Ashwin will play against each other for the first time in IPL. Rajkot did better in terms of foreign players picking up in form Brendan McCullum, James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo. Pune chose Steven Smith and Faf du Plessis.
This first draft included 10 of the 50 players released from suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Big names like Shane Watson, Tim Southie and Michael Hussey went unsold today and they will have to wait for the official IPL auction to be picked for any of the franchise. Among Indians, big players to miss today’s draft selection were Ashish Nehra, Irfan Patha and Sanju Samson.
