Air India Ground Technician Dies After Getting Pulled Into Engine

In an unfortunate incident this evening 16th December, Air India ground technician Ravi Subramanian lost his life at the Mumbai airport after the engine of an Air India plane was mistakenly turned on and Ravi was sucked into it. The incident happened at bay 28 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Domestic airport.

According to sources, Ravi was nearby the engine of Mumbai-Hyderabad flight 619. Co-pilot of that flight misunderstood a different signal as the signal to fire the engine. As he did so, Ravi was promptly pulled in the by the powerful suction created by the engine.

Air India Chairman Ashwani Lohani said, “We are deeply saddened and regret the tragic incident at Mumbai airport this evening when an Air India technician died in a mishap during pushback of flight AI 619. The incident is being investigated. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”
