Many would say the writing was on the wall but few could have imagined that the decision would be so sudden and abrupt. Chelsea has today on 17th October confirmed that they are letting of their manager “The Special One”, Jose Mourinho after a dreadful run this season at EPL. Yet, Mourinho remains the most successful manger for this 110 year old British football club with three EPL titles, 3 League Cups and the FA cup.
Mourinho is leaving at a point when Chelsea are 20 points below the league leaders Leicester City and only 1 point above relegation zone. Ironically, it was Mourinho himself who led the club to the EPL title in last season. This season, however, they languish at 16th position at the table. At this point it is not clear who will be at the helm when Chelsea face Paris St-Germain in the last 16 of Euro 2016.
What could have further insinuated matters are the controversies off the field. During his second stint with Chelsea, Mourinho got involved in multiple rows including one with Chelsea’s own medical team. Mourinho had a bad blood with Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro after a 2-2 draw with Swansea. Eva was demoted within the club and she quit her job on 22nd September. As per sources, she has sought legal action against the manager and Chelsea. Mourinho also managed to accumulate a stadium ban and a 50,000 GBP fine when called match officials afraid to give penalty against Chelsea.
The club said the official statement that the decision was amicable. As the announcement comes on the heels of Pep Guardiola leaving Bayern Munich, it is expected that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would go after Guardiola with all might. Guus Hiddink and Juande Ramos are also under consideration to become the next manager of Chelsea Football Club.
