Barcelona barely had to break a sweat to lift the Club World Cup Final by defeating the South American champions River Plate 3 – 0. Messi who missed the semifinal against Guangzhou Evergrande came back into the side and also scored the first goal of the match before Luis Suarez sealed the game with another brace.
At the start of the match, River Plate looked the more ambitious of the two teams as they a created a few good chances. But Lucas Alairo and Rodrigo Mora failed to beat Barca keeper Claudio Bravo. The deadlock was finally broken on the 37th minute as Messi headed home from a Neymar cross. That goal seemed to break the resolve of the Aregentine team as they failed to give Barca ny competition after that.
On the 49th minute Suarez scored from a solo effort and scored again on the 68th minute from another brilliant Neymar cross. Barca created quite a few chances after that as well but could not score.
