Indian Football Team decimated their neighbouring rivals Nepal at Trivandrum in SAFF Cup today. Nepal have proved to be a formidable opponent for Indian Football Team in recent times beating them on several occasions but today the Indian team was on song from start to finish and presented a clinical performance in front of a packed crowd.
Nepal started the match fresh from a defeat handed out by Sri Lanka in their previous match. But they started in a positive manner through a strike from Bimal Ghartimagar right on the 3rd minute of the match. India equalized via Rowllin Borges’s powerful strike on the 26th minute. India created a few more opportunities before halftime but could not capitalize.
The second half started India searching for a winner. Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri was on song today and he made the most of his form on the 67th minute as her scored his team’s second goal. But Chhetri had to be replaced by Jeje on the 71st minute due to a injury. When the match seemed headed for a 2 – 1 scoreline, India piled on the plight in the last 10 minutes as Lallianzuala Chhangte score on the 81st and 90th minute to hand the visitors a 4 – 1 loss.
Lallianzuala, who had made his Indian Team debut in the last match against Sri Lanka, showed excellent composure under pressure. India could have scored a fifth goal on the 70th minute but Nepal made a goal-line save. With this win India moves to the semifinals of SAFF cup 2015 where they meet a team from the Group B.
