With their win over Zimbabwe in their last match in Sharjah, the Afghanistan Cricket Team burst into top 10 of ICC ODI rankings. They are now at the 10th position ahead of Zimbabwe at 11th and Ireland at 12th. Afghanistan had earlier beaten Zimbabwe at their home in October clinching the ODI series 3 – 2 and became the first ICC associate country to win a series against a ICC full member country.
During the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan had taste of the their first World Cup win as they defeated Scotland by 1 wicket. The Afghan cricket team was formed in 2001 after the fall of Taliban regime and their rise has been stunning. Afghanistan Cricket Board recently made Delhi their home and the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex ground in Noida their home ground.
