2015 has been a fantastic year for female athletes and continuing the form at the fag end of the year, Canadian female goaltender Shannon Szabados became the first ever woman to post a shutout in men’s pro hockey league. Playing for Columbus Cottonmouths against Huntsville Havoc in Southern Professional Hockey League, Shannon made as many as 33 saves to keep the clean sheet and help the Cottonmouths win 3 – 0.
Shannon was a member of Olympic gold medal winner Canadian Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey team that won back to back gold medals at Vancouver and Sochi Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014. Shannon joined the Columbus Cottonmouths in March 2014 and became the first woman to win a men’s pro hockey league match in November 2014 as the her team beat Fayetteville FireAntz 5 – 4.
Shannon’s performance drew a lot of praise from her compatriots and admirers. Hall of Fame goaltender Grant Fuhr also congratulated her over Twitter.
