Indian Origin Cancer Researcher Harpal Singh Kumar Gets Knighthood

Among the influential British citizens who will get Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II this year, Indian-origin cancer expert Harpal Singh Kumar leads the list with extraordinary contribution towards cancer treatment and awareness. Mr. Kumar is the chief executive of Cancer Research UK and he has been the chairman of Cancer Taskforce. Apart from that he is also the author of NHS Cancer Strategy.

His citation for Knighthood mentions that he has been bestowed this honour, “Hugely influential in promoting research into the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and cancer care. CRUK’s income and research spend are at an all-time high. Under his leadership, it has been instrumental in pushing the government to take further measures to reduce smoking and to ban sun-beds for under-18s,”
