Afghan Governor Atta Muhammad Nur Picks Up Rifle To Save Indian Consulate

Atta Muhammad Nur, governor of Balkh province in northern Afghanistan and ex-mujahideen not only oversaw the retaliation against terrorists who attacked Indian Consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif but also actively participated in the fight. Nur is an influential politician of northern Afghanistan and became governor of Balkh in 2004 as President Hamid Karzai appointed him.

Atta Muhammad Nur was in anti-soviet mujahideen group called Jamiat-e-Islami and also in the anti taliban Northern Alliance. During the terror attack on Indian Embassy on Sunday, Indian envoy in Afghanistan twitted that governor Atta was overseeing the whole operation and later he also picked up a rifle to actively fight the intruders.
