The unstoppable Indo-Swiss duo of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis started their 2016 campaign on a winning note as they captured the Brisbane International 2016 trophy in fine style. Dropping only a single set in the tournament, Mirza-Hingis defeated the team of Angelique Kerbar and Andrea Petkovic 7 – 5, 6 – 1.
With this win, Sania and Martina have now won 26 matches in a row, beating Sara Irani – Roberta Vinci’s 25 match winning streak. Now they are behind the 28 match winning streak of Beatriz “Gigi” Fernández and Natasha Zvereva set in 1994. Sania and Martina had a very successful 2015 with 9 trophies under their belts. After the win Sania twitted it was great to continue the form in the new year.
