Bailey, Smith Thrash India As Australia Win First ODI By 5 Wickets

Cricket, Sports

Riding on an unbeaten 171 from Rohit Sharma and a solid 91 from Virat Kohli, India reached a respectable 309 for 3 from their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Australia were not looking comfortable at all against the bowling of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and debutant Barinder Sran as they lost two early wickets by the score of 21 and were going at only 4 runs an over till the 10th over of the innings.

Barinder Sran impressed all and sundry as picked up two big wickets of David Warner and Aaron Finch cheaply and could have had George Bailey early as well if the umpire had detected a glove through to the keeper. But Australia cut loose once the spinners started operating. With the support of a turning track, Both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are getting hammered all over the park.

Bailey departed for 112 off Ashwin as Bhuvaneshwar Kumar took a lovely jumping catch at the long off boundary. Glenn Maxwell also perished to Ashwin trying to hit a six. Steve Smith was fooled by a slower from Sran and got caught on 149. Marsh and Faulkner finished the job for Australia with 4 balls to spare. Barinder Sran looked very impressive with 3 wickets and also some crafty bowling. MS Dhoni has to come up with some ideas before the next game as the Indian spinners look quite ineffective on the WACCA pitch today leaking as much as 129 runs from 18 overs.
