Health & Fitness, News

A study conducted by Zhejiang University of China reveals potatoes can be a great dietary tool against the prevention of stomach gastric cancers. Not only potatoes, white vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, onion and celery also carry this boon. The study took into consideration 76 existing studies in the subject of stomach cancer and diet which encompasses about 6.3 million people and 33,000 deaths caused by stomach cancer.

Potatoes

The main reason behind this phenomenon is identified as Vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant. White vegetables contain ample amounts of vitamin C. Two potatoes or 50 mg of vitamin C everyday can reduce the risk of stomach cancer up to 8 percent. The study also suggests that consumption fruits and green vegetables up to 100 mg a day will cut down stomach cancer risks by 5 percent.

On the other hand, the study found direct correlation between stomach cancer and processed food, meat and refrigerated food. Beer and liquor were identified as main causes behind stomach cancer. In fact food that is highly salted also has a positive correlation with stomach cancer.
