Indian Women Chase Down Record Total In First T20I Against Australia

India women’s cricket team raced past Australia’s score of 140 to set a record win in their inaugural T20I match in Adelaide. Winning the toss, India captain Mithali Raj sent Australia into bat and they lost 2 quick wickets at the top. But a strong 36 from opener Beth Mooney and a late flurry of 41 from Alyssa Healy propelled Australia to 140/5 in their 20 overs. Indian leggie Poonam Yadav picked up 2 for 26 while Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey and Anuja Patil picked up one wicket each.

In reply, India lost Mithali Raj cheaply for 4 runs but Harmanpreet Kaur smashed 46 from just 31 balls and got ample support from Smriti Mandhana’s 29 and Veda Krishnamurthy’s 36. Indian women got to the target with 8 balls to spare. This is the record chase against Asutralia in women’s T20I matches. Australia’s Jess Jonassen picked up 2 wickets for 24 runs.
