The Indo-Croat pair of Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig has cemented its place in the semifinals of Australian Open 2016 mixed doubles. Playing against the Indo-Swiss pair of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis, Sania-Dodig raced past the defending champions in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. Leander and Martina had a great 2015 as they won the US Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon but their first venture in 2016 will end in disappointment.
Incidentally, it was Paes and Hingis who started the match in colour as they broke the very first game of the match. But the relinquished the advantage later in the set and could not match up the to the quality of Sania and Ivan’s play during tie-breaker. Sania and Dodig started the second set with a service break first up and never looked back. Sania has also reached the finals of women’s doubles partnering Martina Hingis.
