62 year old Lynn Poirier of Florida won a 1 million USD jackpot in 2007 after borrowing some money to buy the ticket from her then boyfriend 62 year old Howard Browning. Browning mentioned that in case Lynn won the lottery, they would split the fortune 50-50 to which Lynn agreed and forgot the deal once she pocketed the mullah. But apparently Howard didn’t and a Seminole County jury has ordered Lynn to pay Howard 291,000 USD along with interests.
Howard sued Lynn for the money a few months after she won the jackpot. The matter remained in the court till now where Lynn refused to have ever made such a deal. But the jury deemed Howard and Lynn’s verbal agreement a binding contract and awarded Howard the sum. Which means even verbal promises can hold good in the court of law as contracts.
