After the roaring success of Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knigh Riders co-owner Shahrukh Khan and Royal Challengers Bangalore owner Vijay Mallya have decided to dabble into the Caribbean Premier League. Taking off in 2013, CPl has shown considerable growth and features a host of famed international cricketers. Thus it attracted eyeballs globally and currently the league is sponsored by Hero Motocorp of India.
Shahrukh Khan has bought the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel while Vijay Mallya went for Barbados Tridents. While Shahrukh rechristened his team as Trinbago Knight Riders, Mallya has no such plans. he confirmed that he took interest in the CPL since beginning and once confirmed of the growth, he made his move.
“I have been coming here to the Caribbean since the late 80s. I used to own the global Berger paints company which had extensive interests in the Caribbean. My familiarity with the Caribbean in general and Barbados in particular goes back a number of years. I love this island and obviously that contributed to my enhanced interest in looking at the Tridents franchise.”
Trinbago Knight Riders are boasting of players like Sunil Narine, Hashim Amla and Brendan McCullum. barbados Tridents on the other had have secured the services of destructive AB De Villiers, Kieran Pollard and Shoaib Malik. Both the teams promise a strong outing in the upcoming season.
