Over 400 workers have gone on strike at Tata’s Sanand Nano plan situated in Gujarat. The production at the plant is already down to only 10% of its capacity and this strike could be woeful for the Tata. The workers are claiming reinstatement of their 28 colleagues, 2 of whom were suspended due to indiscipline. According to M S Patel, assistant labour commissioner of Ahmedabad, workers had gone into a strike at that time but the management promised an inquiry and a report within one month.
The report came out 2 months later reinstating one worker but upholding suspension of the other. Citing delay in the report as reason, a number of workers went on strike Monday night and vandalized 50 vehicles. Which prompted workers to demand reinstatement of all 28 workers. Tata management commented that ongoing trouble has been brewing at the plant over demands of raise and disciplinary actions. Policemen have been deployed at the plant to avoid violence.
