Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis’s fairy tale run of 41 wins finally ended at Qatar Open after the russian duo of Elena Vesnina and Daria Kasatkina handed them a three set defeat. The Indo-Swiss pair got bye in the first round and had to take part in another three setter in the second round. In the quarter finals @mhingis and @MirzaSania easily bagged the first set 6 – 2 before going down 6-2, 4-6, 5-10.
Sanitna last lost a match in August, 2015 and since then their run has been something of a spectacle. The 41 match winning streak included three grand slam wins and a number of ATP tour wins. Qatar Open saw the world’s number 1 women’s pair slightly lackluster, perhaps due to playing a lot of tennis in the last few months.
After the loss Sania jokingly shared a tweet saying, “So that’s how the cookie crumbled .. just kiddin.Hehe.. We’ll be back stronger than before” and did not forget to mention the 41 matches they won on a trot. Santina stop just 3 wins short of Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova’s 44 win world record.
