Following 2 season suspension of the Rajasthan Royals franchise in IPL, former Rajasthan Royals mentor Rahul Dravid has now been named as the mentor for lacklustre Delhi Daedevils. Right from the season 1 of IPL, the Delhi Daredevils franchisee has been in a spot of bother finishing second last in the previous season and dead last in the season before that. Looking at Rahul Dravid’s success as the Rajasthan Royals coach and the Midas touch he shown with the Indian U-19 team, perhaps it is he best choice for Delhi. The Daredevils also welcome Rajasthan Royals coach Paddy Upton to replace Garry Kirsten. Delhi Daredevils are not making any other changes to its staff. According to sources, Dravid was initially reluctant to join the franchise as he was not sure how much time he would be able to devote to IPL.

Daredevils Business Chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi welcomed Rahul by saying, “We are privileged to have Rahul joining the Delhi Daredevils as a mentor. His deeds as a player are legendary. Now in his post-retirement phase, Rahul has taken up the arduous task of guiding India A and India Under-19 squads.” Displaying his calm and collected demeanour, rahul said, “I am very excited by the challenge of taking Delhi Daredevils on to the next level. From what I’ve seen, I have been impressed by the ambition and energy demonstrated by the team and I’m looking forward to working with a group of players I believe have what it takes to succeed.”
