Veteran Bollywood actor and director Manoj “Bharat” Kumar has been awarded with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award for lifetime achievement in Indian cinema. The 78 year old actor is known for his patriotic themed movies. He was born in 1937 in Abbottabad, Pakistan and his family moved to India during partition. Hem ade his Bollywood debut with ‘Fashion’ in 1957 and went on to deliver classics such as ‘Upkaar’, ‘Purab Aur Paschim’, ‘Kranti’, ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’ and ‘Patthar Ke Sanam’. He has also directed films like ‘Dus Numbri’ and ‘Sanyasi’. He reached the peak of his stardom when he directed and acted in ‘Kranti’ in 1981 which was a raging box office success.
Manoj Kumar has been bestowed with a number of awards, including 7 Filmfare Awards for best movie, best director, best actor, best dialogue and the lifetime achievement award in 1999. He was honored with Padma Shri in 1992. In 2009 he was awarded the Phalke Ratna award and was nominated for Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2012.
