In order to curb the trend of students striking out all questions during exams, especially among medical and engineering students, the Tamilnadu Directorate of Government Examinations has issued a two year ban for offenders. This trend is especially popular among students of engineering and medical students if they do not have enough preparation for a paper. In such a case, they strike out the answer sheet completely and try to get better marks during the supplementary paper which is often much easier.
The directive says students who commit this offense will be barred from appearing in the same paper for two terms. They also cannot use color pencils or pens to write names, write any symbols on the answer sheet, leave any mark or identification on the paper or tear it off. However, it is debatable how much this directive would serve the purpose as students attempting to fail a paper can always write gibberish answers or answer just one question to avoid the ban.
