In a freak incident of nature, the Atoyac river in Mexico has disappeared overnight after a sinkhole appeared on the riverbed. The incident happened in Veracruz, eastern Mexico. it took place on the night of 28th February. Local incidents head a loud cracking sound and felt some tremor. In the morning they discovered a 30 meter long and 20 meter wide crack that gobbled up most of Atoyac’s water.
Geologists are attributing this incident to limestone based soil of the area. Geologically the area is unstable and the crack is just a manifestation of the fact. Within a day most of the Atoyac river was flowing underground through the crack. Geologists from Department of Civil Defense and National Water Commission are examining the crack.
