On 15th September 2015, Israel Kristal became the oldest living man in the world as head of Guinness World Records Marco Frigatti oficially handed him the certificate. So What? A lot of men have had the title of world’s oldest living man. What’s so special? Well, it’s not his age that makes Israel Kristal special, it’s his ability to survive.
Born in Poland in 1903, Mr. Kristal was at the heart of World War I. At the age of 11 he got seprated from his parents due to the war and had to grow up all by himself. Then he moved to Lodz in Poland, married his first wife Chaja Feige Frucht, had two children and was running a confectionery business. But then World War II happened. Germany invaded Poland and being a Jew, Mr. Kristal had to witness the ‘Holocaust’ as he was sent to Auschwitz, perhaps the most notorious Nazi concentration camp.
He was rescued by allied army in 1945 at the end of WWII. The tortures had reduced him to a mere 37 Kgs and he had lost his wife and kids in the Holocaust. He went to Haifa, Israel in 1950. He married again and now enjoy a large family with a number of grand children. Last year he turned 112, the guy who was not supposed to make it out of two World Wars and the holocaust.
Told you, he has survived more than you can ever.
