Pakistan coach Waqar Younis’s report to PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) was leaked in which he blames the lacklustre and non-serious attitude of captain Shahid Afridi for the team’s debacle in Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20. Younis claimed Shahid Afridi often missed crucial practice sessions and meetings. He is not interested in the team’s performance as a captain should be. Waqar also mentioned that star batsman Mohammed Hafeez had not disclosed his knee injury which forced him to miss two important games.
The report goes on to blame chief selector Haroon Rashid for sending opener Khurrum Manzoor with the team despite Waqar requesting for Salman Butt. He pointed fingers at senior players Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad for indiscipline and arrogance. He claimed that former Pakistan wicket-keeper and chief selector Moin Khan introduced favoritism in the dressing room which is dampening the moral of the team.
After Pakistan dismal performance, Waqar’s job is also under fire and he was not amused with the report being leaked, “I am totally disappointed and upset with the way the report has been leaked and I think the Pakistan Cricket Board needs to find out who leaked it and for what purpose. I can only say what I have written in the report is what I sincerely feel. It is now up to the board to decide what to do. Because I have said before cosmetic measures will not bring about any good in Pakistan cricket.”
