The New Jungle Book Gets U/A Certificate In India

Entertainment, Movies

The Jungle Book movie, based on Rudyard Kipling’s celebrated children’s novel of the same name, is releasing in India today, 8th April. But the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), commonly known as the censor board, has rated the field U/A instead of U or universal. According to the panel, the 3D effects of the movie and th sound effects of animals were too scary for a kid under 12 yeas of age.

According to CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani, the main problem of the movie is its technology, not content. He explained to TOI that the producers of the movie had a chance to appeal against the rating but they decided against it. He confirmed that Jungle Book would receive a ‘U’ rating if the movie was in 2D. The movie features voices of actors like Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson and Lupita Nyong’o.
