According to a report submitted in the Chief Minister’s Office, the complete liquor ban enforced in Bihar is showing results. According to data collected, both crime rate and accidents have come down the from the numbers presented during 1st April to 23rd April last year. The ban was enforced on 5th April this year and the slump in crime rate in the last 20 days must encourage the government. In fact fewer cases of riots were reported during religious events during this period.
The report mentions that during this period last year, 3,178 cases of crimes were reported in the Patna division but this year only 2,528 cases were reported. The liquor ban will cost the government estimated 4,000 crore in revenues but the resulting slump in crime was what the elected government was after.
