As Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba eyes to expand its global footprint, it is creating a few ripples and waves along the way. After Alibaba was accepted in the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, a Washington DC, US based organisation, Gucci America decided to leave the coalition. Michael Kors left the coalition last month itself and said Alibaba is the most dangerous and damaging adversary of international fashion brands.
Alibaba was accepted under a special category where they do not get any leadership roles and they cannot vote either. Gucci has already filed a lawsuit against Alibaba in New Court alleging Alibaba knowingly allows counterfeit products to be sold on their portal. But IACC is standing back from their decision to make Alibaba a member of the coalition. IACC has a large number of high profile companies as its members including Chanel and Apple.
