Japanese pop star Mayu Tomita was stabbed more than 20 times by a fan before her appearance at a concert on Saturday night. The incident occurred at around 5 PM that day. Mayu Tomita is a J-pop idol and apparently she was being stalked by 27 year old Tomohiro Iwazaki. The incident took place at Koganei City in western Tokyo. Mayu had already filed a complaint with authorities that she was being stalked on social media by a guy named Iwazaki.

Mayu remains in critical condition following the brutal attack. Questions are being raised whether Tokyo Metropolitan Police did not take the pop singer seriously. Apparently Iwazaki turned violent after Mayu returned a gift he had sent her. He has confessed to the crime saying, “I lost my temper and stabbed her many times because she didn’t clearly answer.” This is not the first time such a thing has happened in Japan. Earlier in 2015 a man had attacked two members of the J-pop group AKB48.
