Government Introduces Norms For Matrimonial Websites
After receiving a barrage of complaints, government has finally laid down an advisory today which will encompass all matrimonial websites. The advisory will shortly mandate ID proof and address proof document for all registered users. Even users registered before the advisory will be asked to upload necessary documents. Other than that, these websites have been directed to track and store the ip address of a profile creator for at least one year, even if the profile is deleted in the interim.

Apart from these measures, all matrimonial websites are to clearly display a message saying that the website meant only for matrimony and any sort of obscene material is disallowed. They must allow and encourage users to report fraudulent or obscene activity. The sites must make changes so that any data requested by the government can be provided quickly and complaints are handled as quickly as possible.
