India’s brightest star in pro-bodybuilding, former Mr. Universe and Mr. Hercules Manohar Aich died today at the age 104. An icon and a legend, Mr. Aich maintained supreme health and fitness even in his late 90s and early 100s. He died today due to age related complications at his North Kolkata home.
Nicknamed “Pocket Hercules” for his short frame of 4 feet 11 inches, Manohar Aich became the first Mr. Universe from independent India in 1952. He achieved this feat at the NABBA Universe Championships in the pro-short division. He had was the first runner up in the same competition 1951 but clinched the title a year later. He had won the Mr. Hercules competition in 1950. Manohar Aich has inspired at least 3 generations of Indians to take up bodybuilding.
