Leander Paes has recently shown interest in playing the Korea tie in Davis Cup. India will be facing Korea in the Asia/Oceania Group I tie. Leander’s 7th Olympics chances are already looking murky as Rohan Bopanna is preferring Saketh Myneni as a doubles partner. While All India Tennis Association (AITA) is backing Leander for his Olympics aspirations, they are not considering Leander for Davis cup as he earlier said he wants youngsters to get a chance.
At the moment India’s Davis cup team against Korea is set to feature Rohan Bopanna, Saketh Myneni, Sumit Nagal, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Yuki Bhambri. If India manages to win the tie by the second day, young Ramkumar Ramanathan will probably make his Davis Cup debut. An AITA official commented to PTI saying, “If Leander was to be included, it meant that one of those players had to be dropped from the scheme of things and that would be unfair. Paes got late in showing interest otherwise as senior player he would have been considered.”
