Sakshi Malik Enters World Top 5 Following Olympics Triumph

Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik entered the top 5 of UWW (United World Wrestling) Women’s 58 KG category following her bronze medal win at Rio Olympics. Sakshi was previously unranked but her success boosted her to the 4th position. This is the best position any Indian Woman Wrestler has ever achieved.

Apart from Sakshi, wrestler Vinesh Phogat also improved her ranking by 2 places by reaching 11th in the Women’s 48 KG category. Vinesh had to retire from the Olympics in the quarterfinals following a knee injury. Sandeep Tomar and Bajrang Punia are other Indian wrestlers who made it into top 20 of their respective categories. Apart from Sakshi, Indian wrestling contingent’s performance at the Olympics was dismal.
