Complaint Filed Against Southwest Airlines For Ejecting Passenger Speaking Arabic

A complaint has been filed against Southwest Airlines of the US by the Council on American-Islamic Relations. This incident took place in April on a flight from Los Angeles to Oakland. Khairuldeen Makhzoomi who is studying at Berkeley, University of California, was ejected after a fellow passenger complained about him.

Khairuldeen was speaking on phone to his uncle in Arabic. He mentioned the name of terrorist group ISIS as a passing comment. A passenger who knew Arabic mentioned this to the crew. Khairuldeen was subsequently ejected. He was actually referencing a speech given by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that he had attended. The incident has been reported to the Department of Transportation.
