Samsung’s plight with Galaxy Note 7 seem to be everlasting as now the replacement devices are also catching fire. Several countries including India have banned air travel with Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. Samsung was forced to administer a mass recall of all of its Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in US and provide “safe” replacements.
In a statement Samsung said it had found and fixed the issue causing these phones to overheat. But at least two of these replacements have caught fire, one at a house in Kentucky and another aboard a Southwest flight. Fortunately the flight had not taken off yet as the passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. The phone that caught fire at Kentucky was not connected to charger. Samsung said it is trying to recover the phone to identify the problem. Questions are being raised about Samsung’s obligation towards public safety.
