With presidential election just around the corner, the United States is taking guard against possible Al-Qaeda attacks on Monday, 7th November. The attacks could be targeted towards spreading intimidation and sense of unrest the day before election. According to intelligence received by FBI, the terrorist outfit is possibly targeting Texas, New York and Virginia.
Credibility of the intelligence is still being assessed. An FBI official told CBS News, “During holiday seasons and when big events are approaching, intelligence about potential threats always increases. The counterterrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States.” If the information is found to be true, this will be Al-Qaeda’s first international act of terrorism in recent years. The rise of ISIS has pushed Al-Qaeda to irrelevance in the terrorism map. Al-Qaeda even criticised ISIS for their extreme use of force and violence on Muslim contingent.
