Samsung Group CEO Jay Y. Lee could soon be arrested due to allegations of bribery. The allegations also involve South Korea’s President Park Geun-Hye. President Park’s associate Choi Soon-Sil is also under the radar. According to reports, the South Korean special prosecutors have already applied for an arrest warrant. The warrant includes, apart from bribery, allegations of perjury and embezzlement against Jay.
Samsung has said in a statement, “It is difficult to understand the special prosecutors’ decision.” The allegations state that Jay used bribery to gain approval for a number of contentious mergers. The total bribe amount is estimated at 36.42 billion USD. President Park was impeached in December and currently has no power. Choi and President Park have denied these allegations.
