World’s last remaining male White Northern Rhino, Sudan, has taken to dating app Tinder in an effort to repopulate his kind. Being the last male of his species, Sudan is kept under 24 hour surveillance as are the two remaining female northern white rhinos. Attempts to repopulate the species the natural way hit a roadblock as 43 year old Sudan failed to mate with the females. Now Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the organisation taking care of Sudan, has decided to go the IVF route for which about 10 million USD is needed.
His Tinder profile reads, “I don’t mean to be too forward, but the fate of my species literally depends on me.” Users can swipe right at his profile and donate money for the cause. Within hours of his profile appearing on Tinder, donation websites crashed due to heavy load. Tinder plans to release his profile in over 40 languages in 190 countries. Scientists foresee a population of at least 10 Northern White Rhinos in 5 years using IVF techniques. Now all that is needed is people to come forward and give Sudan a chance at saving his species.
