Aizawl FC Pips Big Guns To Win Maiden I-League Title

Despite the presence of big names like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and last year’s champion Bengaluru FC, Aizawl FC lifts the 2017 I-League title and thus becomes the first team from North-East India to achieve this feat. Today Aizawl needed just a draw against Shillong Lajong FC to complete their campaign and they managed a hard fought tie to finally lift the I-League.

Till late in the tournament, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal were in the hunt for being this year’s champion. Couple of tough losses and draws meant they East Bengal could no longer be a contender. Despite pushing hard till the very end Mohun Bagan has to be content with the second place. East Bengal occupy third spot as Bengaluru FC slips to the fourth place. The crucial goal against Shillong Lajong came from¬†William Lalnunfela in the 67th minute.
