When it comes to the stand-up comedy scene in US, the names of Mitzi Shore and her Comedy Store are often uttered in the same breath. The owner of the comedy club since mid-1970s after her divorce with comedian Sammy Shore, the Comedy Store has launched many of the whos who of current US television and comedy scene.
Figures like David Letterman, Jay Leno, Robin Williams, Richard Pryor, Jerry Seinfeld and Roseanne Barr are just a few of the hundreds of new aspiring comedians who happened to entertain a crowd at the Comedy Store. Even recent comic masters like Louis CK have appeared and shot his specials at the Comedy Store. Mitzi had always been a patron of great comedy and lent that most important launchpad every new comedian wants and deserves. She had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for a long time and finally succumbed to it at the age of 87.
