R. Ashwin Ends 2015 As ICC Number 1 Test Bowler, First Indian Since 1973 To Achieve This

Cricket, News, Sports

Ravichandran Ashwin’s fabulous 2015 continued as he is ending the year as ICC number one test bowler. Due to an injury Dale Steyn suffered during South Africa’s ongoing test series against England, Ashwin was able to pip Steyn on the rankings and get ahead by 4 points. What makes the feat even more amazing is the fact that Ashwin is the only Indian to end a year as number one test bowler after Bishen Singh Bedi who did it way back in 1973.

Legends of the game like Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and Bhagabat Chandrashekhar managed to grab the number two spot on multiple occasions but never number one. Along with Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja is alos in the top 10 of test bowlers claiming the sixth spot. Jadeja got a huge boost in his rankings after a stellar performance against South Africa on home soil.

Apart from being the number one test bowler, Ashwin is also ending the year as the number one test all-rounder as he chipped in with important runs when ever the team needed. He was the number one test all-rounder in 2013 as well. The year started with Bangladesh’s Sakib Al Hasan at the top of the all-rounders ranking but ends with Ravichandran Ashwin at the top.
