Netflix Launches Service In India, Starting At 500 INR Per Month

National News, News

Streaming video service giant Netflix has announced launching their services in India starting at 500 INR per month for unlimited content. The company is expanding aggressively and the launch in India is at par with their aim to be present in over 200 countries by the end of 2016. The decision was announced yesterday 6th January during a keynote speech by Netflix Chief Executive and Co-founder Reed Hastings at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. Hastings said, ““Today you are witnessing the birth of a new global Internet TV network. With this launch, consumers around the world, from Singapore to St Petersburg, from San Francisco to Sao Paulo, will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously…no more waiting,”

The move is partly due to the slowing growth at home. A number of experts believe that the number of Netflix subscribers in the US has peaked. Hence the company is looking for fresher grounds and catering to the second largest population in the world could be a significant boost for them. With a significant number of smartphone and tablet users in India, the services provided by Netflix could be very lucrative. The introduction of 4G can also bolster the fate of streaming video services in India.

Initially the services are available for 500, 750 and 800 INR per month. Users will also get free trial for a month. Netflix can be used on smartphones, laptops, tablets and smart TVs. Netflix is also about to launch 31 TV series, both returning and new apart from a host of new movies and shows.
