In a major breakthrough against Rhino poaching in Kaziranga, Assam, poaching kingpin Sabar Ingleng was arrested from Karbi Anglong. The 35 year old poacher has killed at least 20 rhinos in last 4 years and he was one of the major threats against rhinos in North-East India. He was arrested by a special task force of Assam forest department and police force.
The poacher was most wanted and his arrest might provide a significant boost against poaching in the region. Despite stepping up efforts, poaching has been a huge issue in Kaziranga as this year already 14 rhinos have been killed. The treacherous terrain, proximity to border and huge demand of rhino horns in black market makes the job harder. But Sabar can now be forced to divulge critical information about other poachers in the area and significant international contacts.
